Getting a Better Return on Investment for Your Web Site

These days, most businesses have websites. However, many are designed without consideration of future returns on the investment made. That's right; a website is an investment and should return its own cost to the website owner. It doesn't matter if you're site is beautiful to the eye, very complex or just basic and functional. Although some websites are built by top programmers and developers, the truth is that many of these websites do not enjoy a good ROI for their owners. We will look at some ideas to get a Better Website ROI and increase the return on your website investment.

Whether your website carried a cost of almost nothing or thousands of dollars, the ROI mentality needs to be there. No matter how much the investment was, the site needs to generate a return. This means that your site makes money which indicates an increase in sales. This is precisely where your ROI begins.

First, if people don't even know your site exists, sales will not exist at all, so you have to get people to the site. This can be done with good SEO techniques. This makes it easy to increase your site's rank in the search engines. In turn, this leads to more visitors, more conversions (sales) and a better web site ROI.

Ask yourself these questions:

1. How many visitors did the site receive last month from your latest promotional effort?
2. Which pages did your customers go to the most?
3. What was the most popular keyword(s) that were used to locate your web site?

If you don't know the answers to these questions, you aren't in touch with your site. Every web hosting service has analytical reports that can be run to tell you these things.
You will have to look at this information for three reasons:

1) It tells you what is and isn't working.
2) It tells you which of your web pages were viewed most often
3) You will know what keywords are getting people to your site.

Not knowing this information is probably the cause of 90% of web site failures.

This information is driven by search engine optimization (SEO). There are lots of SEO companies on the web, but don't go running out to the first one you see until you KNOW what the SEO firm needs to do for you. Otherwise, you'll spend a bunch of cash with nothing to show for it at the end. There are some SEO things you can do for yourself. Learn a little and save a LOT!

Another thing you do NOT want to do is jump head first into a pay per click (PPC) campaign until you understand how to find a good click through rate (CTR). Using the wrong keywords in a PPC campaign can cost you plenty. Again, learn a little and save a great deal.

In conclusion, if you learn all you can about your site and visitor activity, understand what needs to be done as far as SEO and go slow with the PPC promotions, you can and will increase your website ROI.
